Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. Capitals00 (talk) 01:52, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 13:19, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – We have this IP address who has been targeting this page for a while, and I do not think they will stop soon. Locking the page for a while might push them to stop, as clearly we are not able to block this IP address, see User contributions for 2A0A:EF40:1395:D501:5971:8629:EBA9:4FCE. FuzzyMagma (talk) 17:10, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 17:58, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Very long protection log. Entranced98 (talk) 20:12, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism – Incredible levels of vandalism, redirect keeps getting removed and replaced with nonsense, or the page is blanked. This is an important redirect page to the Manual of Style. It's not just IP users, most recent one was semiconfirmed. Temporary extended confirmed is needed; this is a key redirect regarding Wikipedia policies, rules and guidelines. AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 20:27, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for reporting this. — Newslinger talk 21:40, 26 April 2025 (UTC)Pending-changes protected indefinitely.
- happy to. thanks :D AnonymousScholar49 (talk) 21:47, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Semi-protected indefinitely. On second thought, I've changed the protection level to semi-protection because pending changes does not affect edits from autoconfirmed users when the most recent version of the page is reviewed. If the edit Special:Diff/1287512214 from an autoconfirmed user ends up being more than a one-time occurrence, please re-report this redirect here. — Newslinger talk 21:59, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Reason: Per this discussion, the suspect name is continuing to be added to the article despite entries at WP:RFD and an RFC. Note: someone said "this would be a good candidate for PC2 protection". --Jax 0677 (talk) 21:48, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent, ongoing disruptive editing by anonymous editors, including editing against MOS. livelikemusic (TALK!) 22:00, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
The textbox, in [f]. change "US intelligence estimate: 10,000–15,000 militants (as of January 2025)" to "US intelligence estimate: Hamas reduced to 9,000–12,000 militants (as of June 2024)"
reason: The current claim relies on an article by The Print that says " The Palestinian militant group Hamas has recruited between 10,000 and 15,000 members since the start of its war with Israel" (emphasis on recruited, not killed) The Reuters article https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/diminished-hamas-switches-full-insurgent-mode-gaza-2024-06-06/ claims "The enclave's ruling group has been reduced to between 9,000 and 12,000 fighters, according to three senior U.S. officials familiar with battlefield developments, down from American estimates of 20,000-25,000 before the conflict. By contrast, Israel says it has lost almost 300 troops in the Gaza campaign" Therefore, it will be best to either subtract the two ranges (which was rejected before) or claim that Hamas has been reduced to 9000-12000 members, as written in the article. It is also possible to write "US intelligence estimate: Hamas reduced from 20,000-25,000 to 9,000–12,000 militants (as of June 2024)" just as written in the article, but that might be too long Stone fridge (talk) 21:06, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
